This is a limited series I hopefully plan to keep up for 12 months. My purpose of this series is to give readers who are interested in reselling as a side hustle a glimpse into numbers, and bits of piece of the nitty gritty of reselling. I have been doing this for 15 years part-time. It’s not really a guide, but more of a peek into some numbers & random thoughts on selling. Reselling, even though has its definite downs, has provided additional small income for my family. In general, I work on my own time, which is a huge plus. Especially since I can prioritize my time towards my children, one of who is autistic.
Gross Sales For Both eBay/Poshmark: $841.93
Fees: $158.10
Cost Of Goods (COGS): 200.58
Sales in general seems to coincide with me putting my stores on vacation. Poshmark doesn’t give you the option to have vacation & sales on at the same time. Ebay gives you that option. Overall I barely had Poshmark sales in March.
So Many Unpaid Buyers
I’ll be honest with you. I had a higher average of non paying buyers in March. It’s annoying. When a buyer on eBay accepts your offer they don’t have to pay immediately. I usually file unpaid item then get my fees. . So, it was annoying having to wait for my item to be relisted. I can’t list an item until the unpaid item case closes. Now I’m trying to be a little more careful in accepting offers for my sought after items. I don’t have any tips on preventing unpaid buyers when it comes to eBay. At least on Poshmark when you accept an offer the payment is immediately made.
Putting Stores On Vacation Can Be Lost Of Sales
Another theory for low sales is putting my stores on vacation. It’s like the algorithm for both platforms just doesn’t work. For eBay, putting your store on vacation probably won’t show your items in the feed until closer to your vacation end date. Poshmark doesn’t allow sales while your on vacation. You can also just add a listing when your coming back on your front page. Though for every sale that pops up you need to be honest with the customers on when you can ship. For me, I didn’t want to focus too much on customer messages so I just put my Poshmark store on vacation.
Hoping For A Better April
I haven’t been consistent in listing. I need to be if I want sales to improve. That’s pretty much my goal this April. I’ll keep sticking to buying higher COGS items. It seems to be working for me in terms of having a profit every month.
