August 2023 Reseller Income Report: Gross Sales $892.99

This is a limited series I hopefully plan to keep up for 12 months. My purpose of this series is to give readers who are interested in reselling as a side hustle a glimpse into numbers, and bits of piece of the nitty gritty of reselling. I have been doing this for 15 years part-time. It’s not really a guide, but more of a peek into some numbers & random thoughts on selling. Reselling, even though has its definite downs, has provided additional small income for my family. In general, I work on my own time, which is a huge plus. Especially since I can prioritize my time towards my children, one of who is autistic.

Poshmark Wins For More Sales

For the month of August I noticed I sold more on Poshmark than eBay. $563 vs $329. Actually this year I might end the year with more sales on Poshmark than eBay. Keep in mind I sell mostly clothing. Which brings the question…

Are Clothing Buyers Still On eBay?

Are clothing buyers still on eBay? Of course they are. Though, I think there are certain niche buyers who look at other apps for buying clothing. For example Etsy is popular for vintage sellers. Depop is more for the trendy crowd, and poshmark is kind of versatile in having many types of poshers/sellers. eBay is too but the ease of listing on poshmark is why it’s easier to dabble first if you are selling clothing.

Questioning eBay As a Clothing Selling Platform

I’ll be honest with you, selling on eBay is not as “fun” as it use to be. At least in my selling pov. I know I’m a very small time seller. I use to be more active before my children came along. Yet now, I keep contemplating if I should drop eBay and try other small platforms. The rules, and the lack of support for sellers just isn’t worth for me who is a small time seller. Maybe when my inventory increases I’ll change my mind.

This is just me kind of rambling. I have been wondering if I should jump ship from eBay. I’ve been selling so long on it, it feels like I’m leaving a job I’ve worked so long in. I already downgraded my store to the cheapest store option which is a basic store. I sell less on eBay but I deal with so much more compared to poshmark. I get so many unpaid buyers who make offers, and I have to do with the occasional eBayer that files INAD. With poshmark that doesn’t happen. I have not had a return from poshmark in over a year. At eBay, I tend to have a handful in a year.

In the grand scheme of things returns are part of business, but also INAD sucks. Having to pay out of pocket,AND getting a defect (not just for INAD, also for not having item in stock) is annoying.
