August 2024 Reseller Income Report: Gross Sales $1147.92

This is a limited series I hopefully plan to keep up for 2024. My purpose of this series is to give readers who are interested in reselling as a side hustle a glimpse into numbers, and bits of piece of the nitty gritty of reselling. I have been doing this for 15 years part-time. It’s not really a guide, but more of a peek into some numbers & random thoughts on selling. Reselling, even though has its definite downs, has provided additional small income for my family. In general, I work on my own time, which is a huge plus.

Decent August Sales

For the month of August my Gross sales hit $1,147.92. This was more than last year where I almost hit $900.00 in sales. Was it the sales goal I had in mind? No, of course I wanted to sell more. I can’t be sad about it. It’s still good since I have less inventory.

Missing My Old Inventory Room

Since moving to Southern California, I’m really missing having an inventory room. Right now my inventory are inventoried into bins stacked upon each other in the dining room. Definitely miss having my inventory laid out like a walk in closet. My old inventory system was a hanging method/bins method. I have gone all bins. While I do save space, it’s cumbersome to remove the stack of bins to get a sold item. It’s a small problem to have, but I do miss the space.

Trying To Thrift Within Budget

Since my sales have not increased yet, I still have to thrift within budget. Doing this helps me makes sure I’m not overspending in inventory. I do live in a HCOL now. Thrift prices, estate sales sales, etc cost more. Which means I have to be very selective in what I take home. With a small space mixed in, that means I have to stick to a high ASP.

I have tried the low ASP, more inventory method. It was very exhausting. I can’t do that since I don’t have access to super cheap inventory to pick. I also feel as if I have a little less time to work on my reselling business. With my two kids having varying schedules, a good chunk of my days and weeks is spent on them. It’s not a bad thing. I love my children. The business side of me wishes I could bring home more money though.
